Southwest Airlines is introducing assigned seating on Jan. 27, 2026. The airline's new policy allows passengers to choose their seats based on the type of ticket they purchase. Standard seats are located in the back of the plane, Preferred seats are closer to the front, and Extra Legroom seats offer added legroom. Passengers who book higher-tier fares, such as Choice Preferred or Choice Extra, will have the best chances of getting their preferred seats.
