South Korea proposes to extend anti-dumping duties on Chinese stainless steel plates

Seoul, June 19, 2025 — South Korea's trade watchdog, the Korea Trade Commission (KTC), has recommended the imposition of anti-dumping tariffs on stainless steel plates imported from four Chinese companies. This decision, which will be reviewed by the finance ministry, aims to protect the local industry from substantial damage caused by dumped products.

The KTC has proposed a 21.62 percent duty on stainless steel products from Schuang International Development Ltd., STX Japan Corp., Best Win International Co., and Jiangsu Daekyung Stainless Steel Co. over the next five years. This move comes after a complaint filed by South Korean steel company DK Corp. a year ago.

The KTC concluded that the dumping of Chinese steel plates has significantly impacted the natural gas, shipbuilding, semiconductor, and display sectors in South Korea. These sectors are crucial for the country's economy, and the proposed tariffs aim to level the playing field and support domestic production.

Additionally, the KTC held a public hearing on suspected dumping of Chinese sodium dithionite products and Thai particle boards, with a final decision on possible anti-dumping measures expected later this year.

This decision underscores South Korea's ongoing efforts to safeguard its domestic industries from unfair trade practices and maintain a balanced trade environment.
