South Africa's industrial gas users have formed a nonprofit called GasHub to prepare for an expected drop in fuel supply from Sasol's Mozambique fields around 2028. The company aims to combine demand for gas and attract international LNG suppliers. Several LNG import terminals are planned that could feed gas into the same pipeline network. The country plans to use gas to fill the power gap as coal plants are retired, but currently has no meaningful domestic natural gas supply.
