Sony Electronics Singapore (SES) has announced a significant development in its payment options, integrating USDC payments through Crypto.com Pay on its online store. Starting this week, customers in Singapore can now use USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, to purchase products directly from the SonySONY-- Store Online. This move marks the first instance of a major consumer electronics brand in Singapore offering direct crypto payments, aligning with the growing demand for digital-first payment solutions.

The partnership between Sony and Crypto.com is designed to cater to the evolving fintech landscape in Singapore, providing a seamless and optimized checkout experience for users. Chin Tah Ang, general manager of Singapore at Crypto.com, highlighted the benefits of this integration, stating that it would make paying with crypto more mainstream and accessible for everyday purchases. The collaboration is expected to benefit both Sony’s customer base and Crypto.com users by offering a straightforward way to spend digital assets in real-world transactions.

Initially, the integration supports USDC payments, but Sony plans to expand its crypto support to additional tokens in the near future. The partnership also includes a promotional campaign for Crypto.com users. The first 50 customers who spend at least $220 using Crypto.com Pay will receive a LinkBuds speaker worth approximately $220. Additionally, 150 users who spend a minimum of $73 will be credited 20 USDC. Customers who meet the higher spending threshold are eligible for both rewards, while supplies last. The campaign runs until April 30, 2025.

This latest move by Sony is part of its broader strategy to explore digital assets and Web3 technologies. Earlier this year, Sony launched the mainnet for Soneium, an Ethereum Layer-2 developed by Sony’s Blockchain Solutions Lab. The platform aims to empower creativity and support a more open, inclusive internet by simplifying blockchain interactions and offering a more user-friendly Web3 experience. Following the launch of Soneium, Sony also introduced Soneium Conquest, a campaign aimed at introducing the public to the Soneium blockchain. These initiatives demonstrate Sony’s long-term commitment to digital assets and Web3 infrastructure, extending beyond payments to shape the next generation of internet experiences.
