Sony, LINE Partner to Integrate Mini-Apps on Soneium Blockchain

Japanese tech giants Sony and LINE have announced a strategic partnership to integrate LINE's popular mini-apps into Sony's Soneium blockchain network. This collaboration aims to enhance the functionality and security of LINE's services by leveraging blockchain technology, marking a significant step in the adoption of web3 solutions by major technology companies.

LINE, with approximately 200 million active users, will bring four of its mini-apps—Sleepagotchi, Farm Frens, Puffy Match, and Pocket Mob—to the Soneium network. This integration is designed to facilitate features such as in-game rewards and purchases, providing a seamless experience for users. The partnership is managed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint program between Sony and Singapore-based Startale Labs, which envisions the collaboration as a means to "transcend boundaries, allowing users to experience the benefits of web3 without friction."

Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, highlighted the strategic importance of this collaboration, stating, "LINE has built a strong presence and integrating successful mini-apps into the Soneium ecosystem is a next step toward making Soneium more accessible. We believe this collaboration will drive engagement and adoption in ways that were previously difficult to achieve." This initiative underscores Sony's commitment to exploring the potential of blockchain technology across various sectors, including consumer electronics and digital entertainment.

Soneium, which went live in January, is an Ethereum Layer-2 platform that uses Optimism’s OP Stack technology. The platform aims to bridge web2 users into the web3 space, offering a more secure and efficient ecosystem for digital interactions. By integrating LINE's mini-apps into Soneium, the two companies are creating new opportunities for user engagement and adoption of blockchain technology.
