Sony Electronics Singapore Accepts USDC Payments Via Crypto.com
Sony Electronics Singapore has announced a significant development in its payment options by starting to accept customer payments in USDC through Crypto.com. This initiative, which began on April 2 at 11:00 SST, allows Singaporean users to pay for SonySONY-- Electronic products using the Circle-issued stablecoin USDC exclusively on Sony’s online store. The payments are facilitated by Crypto.com via Crypto.com Pay, a platform that enables instant crypto payments without network costs.
By integrating Crypto.com's payment solution, Sony Electronics Singapore has become the first consumer electronics brand in the region to offer stablecoin payments to its customers. This move is part of Sony's broader plan to adopt more crypto assets for payment options in the future, aiming to drive crypto adoption forward in the nation. The General Manager of Singapore at Crypto.com, Chin Tah Ang, highlighted that this partnership aims to make crypto payments more accessible and mainstream, showcasing the benefits of stablecoin transactions.
Ang stated, “We’re pushing to make paying in crypto more mainstream and partnering with a well-established and forward-thinking brand like Sony Electronics Singapore further raises awareness of how simple it can be to pay for everyday goods and services using crypto.” This collaboration underscores the growing trend of large companies integrating cryptocurrency payments, reflecting the increasing acceptance and adoption of digital assets in the mainstream market.
To encourage more users to adopt USDC, Sony Singapore’s online store is offering two promotional programs for Crypto.com users. The first 50 customers who spend at least 300 Singaporean dollars ($223) worth of USDC on Sony’s online store through Crypto.com Pay will receive a free LinkBuds Speaker worth 299 SGD. Additionally, the first 150 customers who spend at least 100 SGD worth of USDC on Sony’s online store will receive 20 USDC in their Crypto.com account. Customers who spend 300 SGD on the Sony online store can be eligible for both promotional programs, providing a significant incentive for early adopters.
This development follows a similar move by a local department store chain, which announced in February that it would start accepting stablecoin payments in both physical and online stores. The store partnered with a crypto payment firm to facilitate stablecoin payments in USDT, USDC, and WUSD, further indicating the growing acceptance of cryptocurrencies in the retail sector. Sony's initiative is expected to attract a wider range of customers who are looking for convenient and secure ways to make online purchases using cryptocurrencies, enhancing the overall customer experience and staying competitive in the digital landscape.
