Sony has unveiled the ISX038 image sensor, designed for automotive cameras, integrating its proprietary image signal processor (ISP). This cutting-edge sensor is capable of outputting both RAW images for advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD), and YUV images for in-car devices like dashcams and AR cameras.
The ISX038 boasts impressive imaging capabilities, supporting simultaneous HDR and LED flicker suppression. This ensures precise target detection in varied lighting conditions, such as tunnel entrances. The HDR functionality notably enhances object recognition in environments with high contrast between light and dark areas.
With the increasing use of LED lighting in transportation infrastructure, the ISX038’s ability to suppress LED flicker during HDR capturing is essential. This feature maintains image stability and clarity, crucial for real-time vehicle safety applications.
Additionally, the sensor employs an advanced pixel structure and exposure method, significantly extending its saturation illuminance range. When HDR and LED flicker suppression are activated, it achieves a dynamic range of up to 106dB, or 130dB in dynamic range priority settings. This enhances image quality and reduces motion artifacts when capturing moving objects.
Compatibility with existing Sony products used by numerous automobile manufacturers ensures a seamless transition. Pre-production, the ISX038 will undergo the "AEC-Q100" reliability testing and adhere to "ISO 26262" safety standards, ensuring it meets the automotive safety integrity level ASIL-B(D). This commitment promises a reliable and secure solution for the automotive sector.
