Siemens Energy Reaffirms 2026 Outlook-but 154 Billion Backlog Won't Save Gamesa if the Fixes Slip

Raised 2026 guidance leaves less room for execution misses
Siemens Energy delivered another strong quarter, but the upside case is harder to make after management raised its outlook for fiscal year 2026. With the stock near €163.77 and the company now targeting 14% to 16% comparable revenue growth, the market appears to be pricing in a turnaround that is mostly visible rather than one still hiding surprises.
Why the next update matters more than the last one
Earlier momentum was helped by a surge in demand for data centres that require power equipment. That helped drive the re-rating. Now, guidance has been raised and the stock is richer, so the next report needs to show more than confirmation. Investors need proof that service margins, backlog conversion, and wind-business stabilization are all landing on time.
The backlog matters, but the quality of that backlog matters more
The stronger bull case is not that everything goes right. It is that the higher-quality parts of the business are already turning demand into cash flow the market can trust.

Siemens Energy has two very different backlogs
Siemens Energy now has an order backlog of €154bn after a record €17.7bn in orders. But that backlog is not a single asset. The sturdier parts sit in Gas Services and Grid Technologies, where demand is tied to infrastructure, replacement cycles, and grid upgrades. The weaker part is still Gamesa.
That distinction matters because the quarter also showed cash conversion improving. Siemens Energy reported Free cash flow pre tax increased to €1,975m, suggesting some of the current demand is turning into cash now rather than remaining a future promise. Reuters also tied part of the momentum to a surge in demand for data centres that require power equipment, which strengthens the case for the grid setup.
The cleaner profit engine is in Gas Services and Grid Technologies
The clearest signal is the mix. Management is guiding Grid Technologies for 25% to 27% comparable revenue growth and 18% to 20% profit margin before special items. That supports the idea that the higher-quality part of the business is getting stronger at the same time demand on grid infrastructure is tightening.
If that trend holds, the bull case does not depend on Gamesa solving every problem. It depends on Gas Services and Grid Technologies continuing to support margins and cash flow while Gamesa either stabilizes or stops delaying the story.
Gamesa remains the main execution risk
A improving quarter can create fresh optimism, but Siemens Gamesa has shown that quarterly progress is not the same as a finished fix.
The timing risk has not gone away
Early this year, the timeline was still being debated, with Gamesa break-even expected in the second half cited during Q1. More recently, Siemens Gamesa delivered a positive result for the first time since fiscal year 2022, and management said the wind business is on track for 2026 break-even. That progression keeps the bull case alive.
But progress does not remove timing risk. It simply raises the standard for what has to happen next. If investors start treating Gamesa as basically fixed, any delay becomes a much bigger problem.
Quarterly improvement still needs to become clean annual performance
The latest disclosures also show why discipline is still needed. Siemens Gamesa's full-year assumption still lists Profit margin before Special items still at break-even, while Siemens Energy's Q2 FY2026 results said Profit before Special items rose substantially mainly helped by Gamesa improvement, alongside special items of negative €55m. The trajectory is better, but the earnings structure is not yet clean.
That is why the next checkpoint is not just another decent quarter. It is whether Gamesa can reach break-even on schedule, keep specials from overshadowing the improvement, and stop forcing Siemens Energy to divert attention and balance-sheet flexibility to the wind unit.
What investors should watch in the August update
The next major decision point is the August update, with the stock still near €163.77. The market has already rewarded the higher 2026 view and the stronger cash profile, so the next move in the stock may depend less on management raising the bar again and more on whether that bar is being cleared on schedule.
The clearest checkpoint is Gamesa. Management has pointed to break-even expected in the second half of the year, while the company has also accelerated its buyback programme. That combination signals confidence, but only if execution continues to hold.
