Siemens to build EUR 200 million location in Amberg

Siemens AG Announces €200 Million Expansion at Amberg Factory as Part of €2 Billion Global Investment Strategy

Siemens AG has announced a €200 million investment to enhance its manufacturing capacity at its WEF Global Lighthouse Factory in Amberg, Germany, as part of a broader €2 billion global investment strategy aimed at strengthening its leadership in digitalization, automation, and sustainability. The expansion follows earlier commitments to upgrade facilities in Europe, the U.S., and Asia, reflecting the company's focus on localizing production and accelerating innovation.

The Amberg factory, a flagship site for Siemens' Digital Industries division, has been a model for Industry 4.0 since its designation as a World Economic Forum (WEF) Lighthouse Factory. The investment will modernize production processes, integrate advanced automation, and increase output of industrial automation systems, supporting growing demand for smart manufacturing solutions. The project is expected to create over 400 new jobs, aligning with Siemens' strategy to strengthen regional value chains and address labor shortages in key markets.

This expansion is part of Siemens' broader €2 billion investment plan for 2023, which includes new high-tech factories in Singapore and Chengdu, as well as R&D hubs in Asia and Europe. The company also plans to increase research and development spending by approximately €500 million in fiscal 2023, focusing on technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, and the industrial metaverse. Collaborations with Microsoft and NVIDIA aim to accelerate advancements in code generation for automation and virtual factory design.

Siemens' global investment strategy underscores its commitment to diversifying production and adapting to secular growth trends in decarbonization and digital transformation. With 47% of its 2022 sales generated in Europe, the company aims to leverage its established presence in key markets while expanding into high-growth regions like Southeast Asia.

The Amberg expansion, alongside projects in Nuremberg and Lexington, North Carolina, highlights Siemens' dual focus on upgrading legacy facilities and scaling new capacity to meet surging demand for energy transition and industrial automation technologies.
