Shiba Inu Launches Shib Alpha Layer Bridge Enhancing Ecosystem Efficiency

The Shib Alpha Layer Bridge has been successfully launched, marking a significant advancement in the Shiba Inu ecosystem. This new bridge connects Shibarium’s Layer 2 to a Layer 3 system, named the Shib Alpha Layer, which is designed to enhance efficiency and scalable throughput. The update introduces distinct technical roles for the ecosystem's core tokens, BONE and TREAT, without altering their existing positions.

BONE remains the exclusive gas token for Shibarium’s Layer 2, ensuring that all operations on this layer continue to rely on BONE. TREAT, on the other hand, has been assigned as the gas token for all transactions within the Alpha Layer. This separation allows for intensive building on the Alpha Layer without increasing fees or shifting the burden to users. The new design fosters a stratified yet cohesive system where individual elements support each other, simplifying the overall structure and giving TREAT a functional role while consolidating BONE’s dominance.

The Shib Alpha Layer Bridge also allows for the introduction of a distinct usefulness, where BONE drives Shibarium (Layer 2) and TREAT performs only transactions on the Shib Alpha Layer (Layer 3). Distribution of gas functions to specific layers and technologies, such as OP Stack rollups and Elder.js, can help minimize congestion, fees, and the overall performance of the ecosystem. As TREAT changes status and behaves as a fully functional utility token, it will be subject to continued demand due to its applications in dApp transactions and Layer 3 micro-transactions.

As the bridge is live, BONE will still be the only gas token in Shibarium, keeping all Layer 2 solutions and innovative contract activities. Its purpose is still intact since it offers developers and users a trusted platform on which to conduct their practices on the Layer 2 chain. In the meantime, TREAT obtains an entirely new purpose of being the sole gas token on the Shib Alpha Layer. Such a transition will turn TREAT into a utility token, which will provide continuous demand by being used in Layer 3 processes like dApp interactions and micro-transactions. Successive layers of adding individual gas tokens allow controlling workloads more efficiently and improving system performance.

In the Shib Alpha Layer, OP Stack rollups and Elder.js are utilized to transfer assets between the layers. The community had initially expressed concerns about BONE losing significance with the introduction of the Alpha Layer. However, the development team clarified that BONE’s role remains unchanged and that its importance is reinforced through the ecosystem’s growth. Every new decentralized application (dApp), service, or layer built on the Shiba Inu chain settles on Shibarium, and all settlements use BONE. As the network scales, the use of BONE is expected to increase, further solidifying its core position within the ecosystem.

For TREAT, the Shib Alpha Layer represents a functional breakthrough. Formerly regarded as a reserve token, TREAT now powers all internal transactions for Layer 3. This includes dApp access and peer-to-peer transactions, positioning TREAT at the operational center stage. By separating TREAT from Shibarium’s gas sheet, programmers avoid fee duplication, users experience improved functionality, and token taxes remain streamlined. This real-time tool fosters an ongoing need for TREAT, ensuring its operational significance within the Alpha Layer.
