China's Tesla export milestone has reached a significant achievement as the Shanghai Gigafactory rolled out the 1 millionth Tesla car bound for overseas markets. On September 28th, the milestone Model 3 was shipped to the United Kingdom from the Shanghai South Port Terminal. This marks a cumulative export of over 1 million China-manufactured Tesla vehicles.
The Shanghai Gigafactory serves as a crucial export hub and production site for Tesla, distributing vehicles across Europe and the Asia-Pacific regions. Notably, this facility is Tesla's first fully independently designed complete vehicle factory, integrating stamping, welding, painting, and assembly under one roof. This consolidation enables the delivery of a completed vehicle approximately every 30 seconds, boasting a localization rate of over 95% for parts.
The strategic design of unified process flows without redundant logistics steps enhances both spatial efficiency and production efficacy. Consequently, this streamlined approach not only optimizes land use but also enhances cost control, offering competitive advantages to Tesla's global operations.
Additionally, the Tesla Shanghai Energy Storage Gigafactory is under rapid development at the Lingang site, with structural construction over 60% complete as of late September. This factory is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2025 and aims to produce 10,000 Megapack commercial energy storage batteries annually, contributing nearly 40 GWh of storage capacity to global markets.
This achievement underscores China's growing role in Tesla's global strategy, showcasing advanced manufacturing capabilities and a key position in international supply chains. It also highlights Tesla's commitment to expanding its energy solutions portfolio worldwide, further solidifying its presence on the global stage with “Made in China” ingenuity.
