Sentient Labs' Open Deep Search Outperforms Perplexity, GPT-4o by 10%

Sentient Labs, an AI firm co-founded by Sandeep Nailwal and backed by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, is on the verge of launching Open Deep Search (ODS), a new framework designed to challenge closed-source AI search products like Perplexity. The primary goal of ODS is to enhance the capabilities of Sentient Chat, a platform where users can experience not only Sentient’s models but also various applications built on these models. According to Himanshu Tyagi, co-founder of Sentient, the aim is to integrate different agents that are built on their models into the ODS framework.

Currently, ODS is available to a select group of testers, with a full public release anticipated within the next few months. The framework is designed to be community-owned, allowing developers to modify it and build domain-specific plug-ins, private search agents, and alternative reward mechanisms. This approach aligns with Sentient’s focus on building “loyal” AI models, such as their flagship model Dobby. When evaluated against a benchmark called FRAMES, Sentient’s accuracy surpassed both Perplexity’s Sonar Reasoning Pro and GPT-4o Search Preview.

Sentient is committed to making AI more accessible through decentralization. Tyagi expressed his optimism about the intersection of AI and crypto, stating that open-sourcing a framework that outperforms industry leaders like Perplexity provides developers with a powerful tool to create innovative applications. He emphasized that decentralization is crucial because it addresses the issue of data transparency and accessibility, which centralized entities may lack.

Tyagi dismissed comparisons between Sentient and Perplexity, asserting that Sentient does not have a direct competitor. Instead, the team is focused on building models. Currently, there is a waitlist of nearly two million users for Sentient Chat, and approximately 700,000 users of their loyal AI model Dobby. This indicates a strong interest and demand for Sentient’s AI solutions.
