The Secret Service was set to renew former Director Kimberly Cheatle's top-level security clearance but reversed course after Sen. Ron Johnson opposed it. Johnson argued that Cheatle's leadership decisions contributed to the agency's failures surrounding the assassination attempt against Donald Trump. Sen. Marsha Blackburn also opposed Cheatle's clearance renewal, calling it "shameful." The Secret Service said Director Sean Curran determined not all former directors need to have their clearances renewed.
