Seatrium has been awarded a contract to upgrade Golar LNG's Hilli Episeyo floating liquefied natural gas production unit for work in Argentina. The upgrade is expected to be completed before the vessel is deployed next year. Golar LNG selected Seatrium for the project based on their experience and expertise in FLNG upgrades.

Seatrium has been awarded a significant contract to upgrade Golar LNG's Hilli Episeyo floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) production unit, set to be deployed off the coast of Argentina. The upgrade, scheduled to be completed before the vessel's redeployment next year, is a testament to Seatrium's expertise in FLNG upgrades [1].

The Hilli Episeyo, currently working offshore Cameroon for charterer Perenco, will enter a yard in the third quarter of 2026 for a comprehensive upgrade. The scope of work includes technical modifications, engineering and procurement of long-lead items, repair and life extension, winterization, and the installation of a new soft-yoke mooring system [1].

Upon completion, the FLNG Hilli Episeyo will be redeployed at a large-scale upstream and midstream integrated gas development in the Gulf of San Matias, situated in the Rio Negro province offshore Argentina. The unit will be tasked with liquefying gas from the Vaca Muerta Shale formation onshore in Neuquen province for 20 years, with a nameplate capacity of 2.45 million metric tons per year [1].

The upgrade is part of a broader suite of solutions developed by Seatrium to address the industry's focus on energy transition, with LNG widely regarded as a transition fuel. The Singapore-based firm has a proven track record, having converted and delivered the FLNG Hilli Episeyo in 2017 and the FLNG Gimi in 2023 [1].

This contract further solidifies Seatrium's position as a key player in the FLNG market and underscores the growing demand for LNG in Argentina. The Argentina LNG project, estimated to be worth $50 billion, is expected to benefit from significant operational efficiencies and synergies from two FLNGs in the same area [1].
