The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company has announced changes to its Board of Directors, with retired Lt. General John R. Vines retiring after 12 years. General Scott Miller has been named to fill the open seat. Vines was a member of the Nominating & Governance and Innovation & Technology committees, and his term was set to expire in 2027. Miller's appointment brings experience in the U.S. Army, where he served as the commander of U.S. Special Operations Command.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (NYSE: SMG) has announced significant changes to its Board of Directors, with retired Lt. General John R. Vines stepping down after 12 years of service. General Scott Miller has been named to fill the vacant seat. Vines, who served on the Nominating & Governance and Innovation & Technology committees, will continue in an advisory capacity as Board member emeritus. His term was set to expire in 2027 [1].

Vines, who has a distinguished military career, commanded the U.S. Army’s XVII Airborne Corps and 27-nation Multi-National Corps in Iraq, as well as the Combined Joint Task Force and 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan. He is being succeeded by retired U.S. Army General Scott Miller, who commanded at all grades, most notably as commanding general of the U.S. Army Maneuver Center at Fort Benning and as commander of the Joint Special Operations Command [1][2][3].

Miller's appointment brings extensive military leadership experience to ScottsMiracle-Gro. He directed U.S. operations in complex geopolitical regions including the Indo-Pacific, Africa, Middle East, and South Asia. He also commanded assault forces in Mogadishu, Somalia, during the "Blackhawk Down" incident. Miller's numerous decorations and honors include two Combat Infantryman Badges, two Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, and an unprecedented 20 Overseas Service Bars [1][2][3].

Since retiring from military service, Miller has pursued business interests through the Miller Advisory Group, serving as a senior fellow for the Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy, and is an ambassador for the nonprofit Shields and Stripes.
