Macao's economy received a significant boost recently as Sands China Ltd. recognised some of its most outstanding suppliers and local SMEs at the Sands Supplier Excellence Awards and Sands Procurement Academy Graduation. This annual event, held on January 19, 2024, at The Londoner® Macao, not only honoured exceptional suppliers but also highlighted the success stories of local SMEs partnering with Sands China.

The Sands Supplier Excellence Awards, a global initiative of Las Vegas Sands Corp., acknowledged the outstanding cooperation and services of suppliers in seven categories: small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME), corporate culture and sustainability, cost management, service excellence, project management, total quality management, and innovation. Winners were selected by a judging committee comprising Sands China executive management. This year's ceremony saw seven winners recognised for their exceptional contributions.

In addition to the awards, the event marked the graduation of the 13th and 14th cohorts of the Sands Procurement Academy, a training programme designed to support Macao's SMEs. Since its founding in 2017, over 524 suppliers have enrolled, with 485 graduates, including the 69 recognised at the ceremony. The academy helps local SMEs gain experience and capacity for working with large-scale international corporations by sharing practical business knowledge and skills.

Sands China's commitment to supporting Macao's SMEs and suppliers was evident throughout the event. Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., expressed gratitude to the outstanding local SME suppliers for their dedication and partnership in enriching the city's tourism and leisure offerings. He also reiterated the company's unwavering commitment to supporting the growth of SMEs through various programmes.

The event concluded with a cocktail and business networking session, where graduates of the Sands Procurement Academy had the opportunity to meet representatives from various Sands China departments, fostering further collaboration and growth. This annual event serves as a testament to Sands China's dedication to fostering a more collaborative and inclusive environment with its suppliers and local SMEs, ultimately driving Macao's economic growth.

The recognition of local SMEs at the Sands Supplier Excellence Awards not only boosts their confidence and credibility but also influences consumer perception and support, both locally and internationally. By acknowledging the contributions of these companies, Sands China demonstrates its commitment to supporting and nurturing them, which can positively impact consumer perception. Additionally, the publication of inspiring stories about these SMEs in local newspapers further bolsters their reputation, potentially attracting international attention and support.

In conclusion, the Sands Supplier Excellence Awards and the Sands Procurement Academy Graduation serve as powerful tools for fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and growth among Sands China, its suppliers, and local SMEs. By recognising outstanding suppliers and graduates, these initiatives drive economic progress and enhance Macao's competitiveness in the global market. As Sands China continues to invest in the development of local SMEs, the city's economy stands to benefit significantly from this mutually beneficial partnership.
