The Sandbox has launched Game Maker and Game Client 0.12, its latest update to the metaverse platform, which enhances multiplayer gameplay and provides creators with advanced no-code tools to build more immersive experiences. This update introduces features such as saved progress, cinematic user interface (UI) enhancements, and smarter chat systems that support both global and in-game communication, making co-experiences and social interaction more seamless for players [1].
For creators, the update includes dynamic NPC behaviors, such as healing and gathering, as well as expanded asset libraries and game templates. These tools, combined with integrated sound design powered by Wwise—offering access to over 2,500 new sounds—allow creators to build more interactive and persistent worlds [1]. The new features are designed to support faster and more flexible content creation, enabling creators to build and scale multiplayer experiences with greater ease.
Simon Berger-Perrin, Chief Product Officer at The Sandbox, emphasized that the update represents a critical step toward a fully connected metaverse. “With every update, we move closer to realizing our vision of a connected, creator-powered metaverse,” he said. The Game Client 0.12 also introduces new player abilities such as dash and glide, improving the overall gaming experience in action, racing, and exploration-based genres [1].
The update is now available for free on PC and Mac via sandbox.game. To celebrate the release, The Sandbox is hosting a series of Game Jams where creators can compete in themed tournaments. Participants can win a share of the 130,000 SAND reward pool and exclusive LAND plots. This round includes prompts inspired by The Smurfs and Teletubbies, among others [1].
