Russia's Foreign Ministry confirms planned meeting between Foreign Minister Lavrov and U.S. Senator Rubio.
In a significant diplomatic move, Russia's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is set to meet with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio on the sidelines of ASEAN events in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting, scheduled to take place on July 10, 2025, is part of ongoing efforts to discuss various international issues.
Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, confirmed the meeting, stating, "I can confirm that such a meeting is being coordinated" [NUMBER: 1]. The meeting is expected to be held at 6 p.m. local time (10 a.m. GMT) and will be the first high-level interaction between the two countries' top diplomats since the start of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The meeting comes amidst heightened tensions between the two nations. Russia has been vocal in its criticism of the use of the term "annexation" regarding Crimea and other disputed regions, while the U.S. has been providing significant military aid to Ukraine. The meeting is expected to provide a platform for both sides to discuss these issues and potentially ease some of the diplomatic tensions.
In addition to the Lavrov-Rubio meeting, Russia's Foreign Ministry has also announced that Foreign Minister Lavrov will visit North Korea from July 11 to July 13 as part of the second round of strategic dialogue between the top diplomats [NUMBER: 12].
