Royal Bank of Canada has enhanced its WestJet Mastercard Travel Benefits, offering customers more protection and flexibility when booking flights. The changes include increased travel insurance coverage, flexible flight change policies, and new benefits such as trip cancellation insurance and travel assistance services.

TORONTO, Sept. 10, 2025 /CNW/ - Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and WestJet have announced significant enhancements to their co-branded travel credit card portfolio, the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard and WestJet RBC Mastercard. Effective November 5, 2025, cardholders will benefit from faster WestJet points accumulation, expanded travel benefits, and enhanced insurance options.

The changes aim to provide greater value and flexibility to cardholders. Athena Varmazis, Senior Vice President, Consumer & Commercial Credit Cards at RBC, highlighted, "Our partnership with WestJet is focused on delivering more value and flexibility to Canadians when they travel. These enhancements strengthen our leading WestJet RBC Mastercard travel card portfolio, helping our cardholders get rewarded faster and enjoy greater peace of mind when traveling."

Steve McClelland, Vice-President, Loyalty at WestJet, added, "These updates will give cardholders more flexibility and accelerated earning opportunities, so they can enjoy affordable adventures and get the most out of every trip."

Key Enhancements:

1. Increased WestJet Points: Cardholders will earn more WestJet points across new everyday categories. The WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard offers two WestJet points per dollar on WestJet flights, Sunwing Vacations, and new categories like grocery stores, gas, electric vehicle charging, and public transit or rideshare. The WestJet RBC Mastercard offers one and a half WestJet points on WestJet flights, Sunwing Vacations, and new categories including restaurants, food delivery, streaming services, digital games, and digital subscriptions.

2. Flexible Companion Vouchers: Annual companion vouchers remain a key benefit, with new flexibility options. Primary cardholders can now use their voucher for travel with a companion or exchange it for alternatives like upgrades or additional benefits.

3. Enhanced Insurance Benefits: Both cards will offer additional insurance coverage, including trip cancellation insurance for the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard and mobile device insurance for both cards.

4. Fee Adjustments: The annual companion voucher for both cards will now have a minimum spend requirement, and the annual fee for the primary cardholder on the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard will increase.

Conclusion:

The enhancements to the WestJet RBC Mastercard travel benefits reflect a strategic effort by RBC and WestJet to offer more value and flexibility to their customers. These changes align with RBC's purpose-driven approach and WestJet's commitment to affordable travel.
