ROG Unveils Xbox Ally Handheld Gaming Devices with AMD Ryzen Processors and 8GB to 24GB of RAM

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) announced the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, available on shelves starting October 16, 2025. The handhelds are co-developed with Xbox, offering ultra-efficient performance and extended play. The ROG Xbox Ally is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, while the premium ROG Xbox Ally X features an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme. The Xbox team has tested thousands of PC titles for handheld compatibility, with the Handheld Compatibility Program ensuring an optimal gaming experience.

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced the upcoming release of its new gaming handhelds, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, set to hit Canadian stores on October 16, 2025 [1]. The ROG Xbox Ally is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, featuring four Zen 2 cores with eight threads and eight AMD RDNA 2 GPU cores. It comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM and a 512GB M.2 SSD, backed by a 60Wh battery for extended play [1]. The premium ROG Xbox Ally X ups the ante with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, featuring eight cores and 16 threads, along with 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory and a 1TB M.2 SSD, boasting an 80Wh battery for longer playtime [1].

Xbox has been working on optimizing thousands of PC titles for handheld compatibility, ensuring an optimal gaming experience. The Handheld Compatibility Program will ensure that compatible games in the game library will sport Handheld Optimized or Mostly Compatible badges at launch [1]. This means that the games are either fully optimized for handhelds or may require minor in-game setting changes for the best experience.

The ROG Xbox Ally X features advanced shader delivery, which allows the Xbox app to preload a game’s shaders during download, resulting in faster launch times and smoother gameplay [1]. Additionally, the ROG Xbox Ally X will feature AMD’s cutting-edge Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with a built-in NPU, which will unlock AI-powered features starting early next year [1]. Both handhelds will be available for the first time at Gamescom 2025, where fans can try them out and meet the stars of the latest ROG Travel campaign film, actors Ned Luke and Shawn Fonteno [1].
