The XRP community is abuzz with speculation about a potential settlement in the
vs. SEC lawsuit before July 14. However, Marc Fagel, a former SEC attorney, has dismissed these rumors, stating that a resolution this weekend is highly unlikely. Fagel emphasized that the SEC's internal review process typically takes one to two months, making a quick settlement improbable. He also noted that Judge Analisa Torres currently has no jurisdiction over the case, as there are no pending motions before her.Fagel's comments come as the community awaits any official statement from the SEC following Ripple's dismissal request. A recent closed-door meeting by the SEC has fueled speculation, but legal experts maintain that there is no indication of an imminent resolution. Fagel clarified that any settlement or decision from the court would not happen immediately, let alone over the weekend. He reiterated that the SEC hasn't filed to dismiss the appeal yet, and the agency must vote internally before any formal request to withdraw the case can be made.
The July 14 date gained traction after some users speculated that Ripple initially aimed to end the lawsuit in March, possibly aligning with ISO 20022 updates. However, Fagel dismissed this idea, stating that there is no evidence supporting a preplanned settlement tied to that timeline. He also clarified that recent case developments are unrelated to external standards like ISO.
Fagel also addressed claims linking Former SEC Chair Gary Gensler to the decision to pursue the Ripple lawsuit. He stated that the case was initiated in 2020, before Gensler assumed office, and that the decision had nothing to do with him. Fagel argued that if investors suffered losses, Ripple should be held accountable for allegedly selling unregistered securities, not the SEC.
With Judge Torres out of the picture for now and the SEC's internal procedures still underway, any ruling or settlement before July 14 appears highly unlikely. The community will have to wait for the SEC's internal vote and a formal request to withdraw the case before any resolution can be expected.
