Ripple Invests $5 Million in APAC Universities for Blockchain Research

Ripple, a prominent crypto payment company, has announced a significant expansion of its global blockchain education efforts with a commitment of over $5 million in funding to universities across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. This investment is part of Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), which aims to foster talent and innovation in regions with a strong digital finance appetite.

The funding will be directed towards institutions in South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Australia. These regions have been identified as key hubs for fintech, with a high concentration of neobanks and forward-thinking regulations. The combination of active developer communities and supportive regulatory environments makes the APAC region well-positioned to lead in blockchain research and adoption.

In South Korea, Ripple has extended its collaboration with Korea University through a six-year agreement worth $1.1 million. This partnership will focus on advancing research in blockchain technology and its applications. In Japan, new funding will support both Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo, with the latter having already received over $1.5 million from UBRI. These institutions will conduct research on decentralized systems and AI, contributing to the development of innovative solutions in the blockchain space.

In Singapore, over $3 million will be allocated to two leading institutions: the Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore. This funding will expand academic research and blockchain coursework in the region. Professor Yang Liu of the Nanyang Technological University highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating that the grant will support the development of an autonomous AI agent network on the XRP Ledger. This network aims to create a transparent, modular, accessible, and collaborative AI platform harnessing blockchain technology, which is expected to shape the future of AI.

In addition to these partnerships, Ripple is also strengthening its ties with the Australian National University and launching a new partnership with Victoria University. The combined funding of $1.3 million will support legal and policy research on blockchain, digital payments, and decentralized systems. It will also back faculty-led studies into platforms like Evernode, furthering the understanding and application of blockchain technology in various sectors.
