Rio Tinto, Queensland, and the Commonwealth have partnered to secure a long-term future for the Boyne aluminium smelter in Gladstone. The deal involves a combined A$2 billion investment over 10 years and ensures the smelter's competitiveness beyond its current power contract. The partnership supports the transition to renewable energy and the preservation of heavy manufacturing jobs in Central Queensland. Rio Tinto has also signed PPAs for 2.8GW of renewable energy in Queensland.
