Revolut Partners with Lightspark for Bitcoin Transactions on Lightning Network

Revolut, a prominent digital bank, has announced its collaboration with Lightspark to introduce Bitcoin (BTC) transactions on the Lightning Network for customers in the U.K. and select countries within the European Economic Area (EEA). This initiative is designed to reduce transaction fees and expedite payment processing for cryptocurrency users. Lightspark, led by former PayPal executive David Marcus, provides the necessary backend infrastructure to connect to what it refers to as the “Money Grid”—a decentralized network facilitating real-time global payments.
The Lightning Network, a layer-2 system built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain, enables near-instant, low-fee transactions. By leveraging Lightspark's infrastructure, Revolut users will be able to bypass the congestion and high fees associated with the base blockchain, allowing for faster and more efficient BTC transactions. This integration aligns with Revolut’s mission to make financial services more accessible and cost-effective. Emil Urmanshin, Revolut’s crypto general manager, emphasized that partnering with Lightspark is a logical step in enhancing the speed and affordability of financial services.
This move positions Revolut among the growing number of fintech companies embracing faster, crypto-native payment systems. The integration of the Lightning Network through Lightspark is expected to significantly improve the user experience by offering quicker and more economical transaction options. While the exact timeline for the feature's rollout has not been specified, the collaboration underscores Revolut's commitment to innovation and its efforts to stay at the forefront of financial technology.
