Republicans Sweep The Election By Finally 'Tapping In' House Majority

The latest data from The Hill shows that the Republican Party has won 218 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, surpassing the majority threshold and securing control of the chamber. This indicates a sweeping victory for the Republicans, as they have gained control of both the House and Senate, as well as the presidency in this election cycle.

Republicans saved some of their most vulnerable incumbents, like Reps. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) and David Valadao (R-Calif.), while defeating several vulnerable Democratic incumbents. State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Pa.) unseated Rep. Susan Wild (D-Pa.), while businessman Rob Bresnahan defeated Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Pa.).

In the early hours of last Wednesday, Trump actually "predicted" this victory in his speech from Palm Beach, Fla.: "It also looks like we'll be keeping control of the House of Representatives. And I want to thank Mike Johnson. I think he's doing a terrific job."

On November 5th, the United States held its quadrennial general election. In addition to electing a new president, this election also saw the full 435 seats of the U.S. House of Representatives and 34 out of the 100 seats in the Senate up for grabs. To become the majority party in the House, a party needs at least 218 seats.

Republican candidate Donald Trump has already defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris to be elected as the President of the United States. Furthermore, the Republicans had previously secured a majority in the Senate as well.

The outcome of the election is expected to shape the ongoing legislative battles in the waning days of the 118th Congress. Ultra-conservative factions will likely push for postponing the discussion of essential legislation until after the new year, anticipating that a Republican-controlled Senate and White House will lead to more right-leaning policies and reduced government expenditures.
