On Thursday, August 14, Republic Services Group celebrated the deployment of Chicago's first electric refuse fleet, featuring two new Mack LR Electric garbage trucks. The event underscored the company's commitment to sustainability and cleaner air quality in urban communities.

The Mack LR Electric trucks are purpose-built for refuse applications, delivering zero local emissions while maintaining the durability and performance known for Mack trucks. Equipped with a 400 kW electric motor and 4,051 lb-ft of peak torque, the trucks can be charged in under two hours at 150 kW, offering quieter operation ideal for early morning routes. The low cab-forward design and tight turning radius ensure maneuverability essential for residential and commercial waste collection routes.

This deployment is part of a broader partnership between Republic Services, Mack Trucks, and ComEd to bring sustainable waste collection technology to the city. The initiative highlights Republic Services' dedication to meeting sustainability goals and supporting cleaner air quality in urban communities.
