Noted sculptor Ram Sutar, known for designing the Statue of Unity, has passed away at 100 due to age-related illnesses. Born in a humble family in Maharashtra, Sutar was drawn to sculpting from childhood and has a long list of achievements, including iconic statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Chhatrapati Shivaji. He was honored with the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.
