Reliance Consumer to become direct unit of Reliance
In a significant organizational restructuring, Reliance Industries has announced plans to transform its consumer-facing businesses into a standalone unit, named Reliance Consumer. This strategic move aims to consolidate and streamline operations, focusing on growth and innovation within the consumer sector.
Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, made the announcement during the company's 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on August 29, 2025 [3]. The new unit will encompass Reliance Retail, Reliance Jio, and other consumer-facing businesses, aligning with the company's broader vision of becoming a deep-tech company.
The formation of Reliance Consumer is part of a broader strategy to position India as a global leader in AI and deep technology. Ambani emphasized that the company is committed to leveraging AI to drive innovation and growth across various sectors, including consumer goods, telecommunications, and energy [1]. The new unit will be led by experienced professionals who will focus on delivering AI-native solutions and enhancing the customer experience.
Reliance Industries has also announced plans to list Reliance Jio Infocomm, its telecom arm, in the first half of 2026. The IPO is expected to be one of the largest in India's history, raising around $6 billion and potentially valuing Jio at $115 billion [2]. The listing will provide investors with an opportunity to participate in the growth of India's largest telecom operator, which has already crossed the 500 million customer milestone [3].
The reorganization of Reliance's consumer businesses into a standalone unit is a strategic move that aims to enhance operational efficiency and focus on innovation. By consolidating its consumer-facing businesses, Reliance aims to create a more agile and responsive organization that can better serve its customers and compete in the rapidly evolving consumer market.
