Reeves: want to strengthen capital market links with US

UK and U.S. Commit to Strengthening Capital Market Collaboration

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have announced the formation of a Transatlantic Taskforce for Markets of the Future, aimed at deepening collaboration between the UK and U.S. financial systems. The initiative, unveiled during a joint industry roundtable at Downing Street on September 22, 2025, seeks to address evolving challenges in capital markets and digital assets while fostering cross-border growth according to the Treasury announcement.

The taskforce, co-chaired by officials from HM Treasury and the U.S. Treasury, will focus on two primary objectives: enhancing short- to medium-term cooperation on digital assets amid developing regulatory frameworks and identifying long-term opportunities for innovation in wholesale digital markets. Additionally, it will explore ways to strengthen ties between UK and U.S. capital markets, with an emphasis on reducing regulatory burdens for firms raising capital across borders.

A key priority is aligning regulatory approaches to support the competitiveness of both markets. The taskforce will engage industry experts, regulators, and stakeholders—including representatives from the UK-U.S. Financial Regulatory Working Group (FRWG)—to ensure recommendations reflect practical industry needs. Its findings will be reported to the FRWG within 180 days, with an action plan to follow as detailed in the release.

This initiative underscores the shared recognition of the UK and U.S. as global financial hubs and their commitment to navigating technological advancements collaboratively. By prioritizing cross-border alignment, the taskforce aims to create a more integrated and resilient financial ecosystem for investors and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.
