Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang advocates for the US to "reduce" its dependency on other countries and onshore technology manufacturing, calling it "exactly the right thing." He believes investing in manufacturing will boost the economy and create stable careers. Huang also addresses AI's impact on jobs, stating that while some jobs may be lost, many will be created, and productivity gains will lift society.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has been vocal about the need for the United States to reduce its dependency on other countries for technology manufacturing, stating that investing in this sector is "exactly the right thing." In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Huang emphasized the importance of onshoring manufacturing to boost the economy and create stable careers.

Huang believes that the United States should invest more in manufacturing, noting that the country is currently "missing that entire band in our industries." He argued that the ability to manufacture goods is valuable for economic growth and societal stability, and that this skill is crucial for a stable society where people can create a good life and career without needing a PhD in physics [1].

The Trump administration has implemented several policies aimed at reviving America’s manufacturing industries, including tariffs and investments in technologies. Huang supports these efforts, stating that reducing dependency on other countries for critical technologies like semiconductors and chips is a smart move. He also noted that onshoring manufacturing would ease pressure on Taiwan, where the world’s largest semiconductor maker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), is based [1].

Huang also addressed the impact of AI on jobs, noting that while some jobs may be lost due to automation, many new jobs will be created. He believes that the productivity gains from AI will ultimately lift society. Nvidia, which briefly reached $4 trillion in market value, is a key player in this technology boom, creating AI-powered technology for data centers used by companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google [1].

Additionally, Huang touched on the ethical considerations of AI, including concerns about models being prone to "hallucinations" and manipulation. He believes that while there may be some harm, the technology's overall impact will be overwhelmingly positive. Huang also mentioned the potential for AI to revolutionize healthcare and real-world applications, such as creating robots that can perform physical tasks [1].

In a separate development, MP Materials (MP) has announced plans to construct a rare-earth magnet manufacturing facility in the US, aiming to reduce foreign dependency for these critical components. The company has secured a $1 billion funding commitment and expects the facility to become operational in 2028, boosting its manufacturing capacity to an estimated 10,000 metric tons [2].
