Crypto venture capital funding has surged by 54% in the first half of 2025, reaching $16 billion, with experts predicting this year's total to eclipse the combined funding of the previous two years. The current cycle is characterized by institutional investment and regulatory clarity, leading to a "floodgates opening" for crypto IPOs and a potential shift towards a more sustainable investment cycle.

Crypto venture capital firm Sora Ventures has announced plans to raise $1 billion to support Bitcoin treasuries in Asia, marking a significant milestone in the region's institutional adoption of the cryptocurrency. The Taiwan-based firm aims to accumulate an additional $800 million for BTC over the next six months, following an initial commitment of $200 million from partners and investors [1].

Sora Ventures' fund will act as a central pool of institutional capital, designed to both support existing Bitcoin treasury firms and fuel the creation of similar treasuries globally. This approach differs from other Bitcoin investment vehicles in the region, such as Metaplanet, which holds 20,000 BTC worth over $2.2 billion on its balance sheet [1].

Sora Ventures' founder, Jason Fang, emphasized the importance of Asia's role in the development of blockchain technology and Bitcoin. He noted that while interest from institutions investing in Bitcoin treasuries has risen in the U.S. and EU, efforts in Asia have been relatively fragmented. This fund aims to bring Asia on par with western markets in terms of institutional adoption of Bitcoin [1].

The Bitcoin treasury phenomenon, which started with Michael Saylor and his business software firm Strategy in 2020, has seen over 300 entities hold the top crypto asset on their balance sheets, with more than 3.7 million BTC accounted for [1].
