This protocol also introduces the Validator Admission Ticket (VAT), a fixed fee of 1.6 SOL per epoch, which replaces the previous on-chain vote transactions. The VAT is designed to maintain economic incentives and prevent gaming of the system, while also ensuring validators remain active and accountable. Validators must now submit votes off-chain, with the aggregated data on-chain, reducing bandwidth and processing costs. This shift is expected to improve overall network efficiency and reduce the economic burden on validators. A key concern in Solana’s ecosystem is the high rate of user churn, with over 96% of daily active addresses failing to return the following day. This indicates a reliance on algorithmic traders and temporary liquidity providers rather than a base of recurring users. While Solana’s ecosystem has expanded into gaming, NFTs, and decentralized finance (DeFi), it has struggled to convert short-term activity into long-term value. In contrast, BlockDAG has adopted a user retention strategy centered on gamification, educational initiatives, and EVM compatibility. The X1 mobile application allows users to participate in mining, while initiatives like “Buyer Battles” and educational programs foster a self-sustaining community. Its EVM compatibility has also enabled a smooth migration path for Ethereum-based dApps, accelerating adoption and ecosystem growth. The platform’s technical innovation is complemented by a growing developer base, with over 300 decentralized applications already in development. These factors contribute to a more sustainable growth model compared to Solana’s current approach. As both BlockDAG and Solana prepare for the 2025 market cycle, their paths diverge in terms of user engagement and long-term sustainability. While Solana’s focus remains on performance and scalability, BlockDAG’s emphasis on user retention and ecosystem building is reshaping the competitive landscape.
