On October 14, Qualcomm (QCOM) shares surged by 4.74%, marking a two-day increase of 5.65%. This rise follows predictions by influential tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, stating that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen4 chip will experience a significant increase in shipment volumes. The chip is set to rival Apple's A18/A18 Pro and MediaTek's Dimensity 9400, with a launch expected at the Snapdragon Summit next week.

Ming-Chi Kuo highlighted that the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen4, priced higher than previous models, is anticipated to ship around 9 million units in the latter half of 2024, reflecting a 50% year-over-year increase. This boost is attributed to the advanced N3E process by TSMC, elevating the chipset's price by 15%. The anticipated strong performance is expected to notably contribute to Qualcomm’s Q4 results.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen4, featuring enhancements like the Oryon CPU and improved AI-related NPU, is promising notable performance boosts. Internal tests suggest clock speeds reaching 4.0GHz, significantly surpassing the Snapdragon 8 Gen3. Reports also indicate robust Geekbench scores—over 3000 for single-core and over 10,000 for multi-core performance, outshining both the Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Additionally, upgrades to the X80 5G modem should enhance connectivity by optimizing base station and 5G frequency connections, promising faster and more efficient data transmission. Kuo suggests that Qualcomm’s stock is factoring in Apple's independent 5G chip developments, with further growth anticipated into 2025.

In other developments, Qualcomm recently received the “5G Development Special Contribution Award” from China Mobile at the 2024 China Mobile Global Partners Conference. This accolade underscores Qualcomm’s collaborative successes in deploying various 5G Advanced technologies, contributing significantly to the 5G ecosystem’s advancement.

Looking forward, Qualcomm remains committed to broadening its technological collaborations beyond smartphones to include sectors such as automotive, PC, XR, and IoT. This expansion aims to leverage 5G-A and AI technologies, elevating industry standards and user experiences across different fields. Qualcomm’s ongoing partnership with China Mobile is expected to further drive the development of innovative 5G applications and solutions.
