Putin, Kim Jong Un meeting over after 2.5 hours: TASS

Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have concluded a meeting in Beijing that lasted over 2.5 hours, according to TASS. The meeting took place at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, where Putin is staying during his visit to China. The leaders were in Beijing to attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

This meeting follows a series of high-level talks between Putin and Kim Jong Un in recent years. The leaders previously met in Vladivostok, Russia in April 2019, at the Vostocini Space Station in Russia in September 2023, and in Pyongyang, North Korea in June 2024. They signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty last year, with North Korea openly showing its military closeness by supporting combat troops in Russia's operation to recapture Kursk.

The meeting in Beijing is significant as it marks the first time since the post-Cold War that the leaders of North Korea, China, and Russia will stand in one place. The talks are expected to discuss further cooperation between the three nations, particularly in light of the ongoing geopolitical tensions, including the situation in Ukraine.
