Pump.fun Restores Livestreaming with 5% User Test, New Moderation Rules
Pump.fun, a token launchpad built on the Solana blockchain, has fully restored its livestreaming feature on April 11, 2024. The platform had suspended this functionality since November 25, 2024, due to widespread misuse and challenges in managing user-generated content effectively. The resumption of the livestream feature comes with a new set of moderation rules and enforcement mechanisms designed to prevent abuse and ensure a safer environment for users.
The reinstated livestreaming feature is now available to all users, equipped with "industry standard moderation systems" and clear content guidelines. This follows a limited rollout on April 4, 2024, where the feature was tested with 5% of users under the new compliance framework. The new policies include a defined list of prohibited content, such as graphic violence, threats, sexual exploitation, harassment, doxxing, unauthorized use of intellectual property, and any material promoting terrorism or illegal activity. Content involving youth endangerment or child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is strictly banned and may be referred to law enforcement.
Pump.fun emphasized that the new moderation policy aims to balance "creativity and freedom of expression" while minimizing harmful or illegal behavior. The platform noted that the moderation framework will continue to evolve based on feedback from users, moderators, and policy experts. Violations of the new policies may result in livestream termination or permanent account suspension, with users having the option to appeal moderation decisions, although the platform retains final authority over content rulings.
The livestream function, initially launched in May 2024, had become a significant driver of user engagement by allowing memecoin creators to interact directly with investors in real time. However, its rapid adoption led to serious misuse, including extreme challenges tied to token performance, such as stunts involving firearms and threats of self-harm. One notable incident involved a creator who threatened suicide if their token failed to reach a specified valuation, prompting calls from industry figures for Pump.fun to take the feature offline.
At the time of the suspension, the Pump.fun team had doubled its human moderation workforce and was developing automated systems to detect violations. The platform stated that it would only reinstate livestreaming once its moderation infrastructure could support wider use. Now, creators are required to adhere to the published moderation policy and utilize appeal mechanisms as needed. This move by Pump.fun underscores the platform's commitment to creating a safer and more regulated environment for its users, while also addressing the challenges posed by user-generated content in the rapidly evolving world of blockchain technology.
