Pump.fun Reintroduces Livestreaming With New Safeguards
Pump.fun, a meme coin launchpad, has fully relaunched its user livestreaming feature with new safeguards in place. The platform, which initially gained popularity through livestreams, had to shut down the feature due to various controversies, including market manipulation, threats of violence, and illegal activities.
Livestreams on Pump.fun were initially designed to help meme coin creators promote their tokens. However, the feature quickly became a source of controversy as streamers engaged in market manipulation, scams, and illegal activities. The situation escalated to the point where some streamers threatened violence, including animal abuse, self-harm, and suicide.
In November, Pump.fun closed down its livestreaming service after a user called “Beni” threatened a false suicide stunt. Despite the closure, incidents continued to occur. In February, a user named “MistaFuccYou” livestreamed his genuine suicide on a different platform, further tarnishing Pump.fun’s reputation. Before taking his life, he encouraged viewers to launch meme coins in his name, leading to dozens of such products going live on Pump.fun.
Pump.fun has now reintroduced livestreaming with strict new content guidelines. The platform has implemented eight prohibited categories, including violence, harassment, sexual content, and various types of illegal activity. Users who violate these policies may have their livestreaming privileges revoked, their accounts disabled, and their content reported to law enforcement where applicable.
The platform’s new moderation rules have been well-received by the community. Livestreams were a significant factor in Pump.fun’s initial popularity, and their absence was a disappointment for many users. The hope is that the new safeguards will create a fun and lighthearted environment, free from both “clean” pump and dump schemes and the darker criminal actions that previously plagued the platform.
