Pump.fun Reintroduces Live Streaming with 5% User Access, Enhanced Moderation

Pump.fun, a Solana-based memecoin launchpad, has reintroduced its live-streaming feature to 5% of its users. The decision comes five months after the platform suspended the feature due to incidents involving harmful content. Alon Cohen, co-founder of Pump.fun, announced the return of live streaming on April 4, emphasizing that the feature now includes industry-standard moderation systems and transparent guidelines.
The platform's new moderation policy aims to foster a social environment that encourages creativity, freedom of expression, and meaningful user engagement while prohibiting illegal, harmful, and negative interactions. The policy explicitly bans content such as violence, animal abuse, pornography, and youth endangerment. However, it also leaves room for interpretation by stating that Pump.fun does not intend to universally define what content is appropriate or inappropriate, suggesting that some content generally considered NSFW may still appear on the platform.
Pump.fun reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of content and moderate it accordingly. Breaches of the moderation policy could result in the termination of creators' livestreams and their Pump.fun accounts. The platform's decision to reintroduce live streaming comes at a time when the memecoin market has seen a significant decline in interest, following a series of high-profile rug pulls and poor price performance of various tokens.
In November, Pump.fun removed its live-streaming feature due to an influx of extreme content as memecoin creators resorted to shocking tactics to promote their tokens. Some users were allegedly threatening violence or self-harm if a token didn’t reach a price goal. The platform cited unprecedented growth and strain on its moderators as reasons for pausing the live-streaming functionality indefinitely.
Mikko Ohtamaa, co-founder of algorithmic trading firm Trading Strategy, had previously warned that if Pump.fun continued to allow live-streaming without appropriate moderation, it would face shutdown once a mainstream audience became aware of the issues. The return of live streaming on Pump.fun indicates the platform's efforts to address these concerns and create a safer environment for its users.
