Pump.fun Launches Mobile App Amid Mixed Reviews and Transaction Challenges
Pump.fun, a popular memecoin launchpad on the Solana blockchain, has released a mobile app, marking a significant update since it disabled livestreams in November. This move underscores the growing trend of crypto projects offering user-friendly mobile applications.
The new app, Pump.fun mobile, provides a smooth onboarding process, automatically creating a crypto wallet for users courtesy of Privy. However, some users, including the author of the Lightspeed newsletter, have reported difficulties in landing transactions without manually adjusting priority fees and slippage. By the time transactions were successful, early buyers had already moved on to newer tokens, leaving some users with worthless memecoins.
The app's early users have also expressed similar struggles, with mixed reviews on both Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store. Despite these initial challenges, the mobile app is seen as a long-term play, and industry observers are not betting against Pump.fun's continued success. The platform has generated around $548 million in revenue since its launch over a year ago.
To compete with Moonshot, the Trump-favored mobile memecoin app owned by Jupiter, Pump.fun will need to address the mobile transaction landing issues. Retail users may be willing to accept slightly worse prices if it means their transactions are more likely to be successful. The mobile app is expected to drive longer-term growth and usage for Pump.fun.
