Senator Christopher "Bong" Go emphasized the importance of inclusive and targeted employment solutions in response to new labor data showing a slight increase in the national unemployment rate. The Philippine Statistics Authority reported that 2.06 million Filipinos were unemployed in April 2025, with the unemployment rate rising to 4.1% from 3.9% in March. Go highlighted the need for fair compensation and job security, especially for vulnerable sectors such as freelancers, rural workers, and government employees.
Go has proposed several legislative measures to address labor issues. These include Senate Bill No. 2534, which aims to increase the daily minimum wage nationwide, and SBN 420, the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP), which seeks to provide temporary employment opportunities for displaced and underemployed workers. Additionally, Go filed SBN 2107, the Freelance Workers Protection Bill, to ensure fair working conditions and protections for freelancers. SBN 1184, the Food, Grocery, and Pharmacy Delivery Services Protection Act, is designed to safeguard delivery riders from abuse and ensure fair treatment. Public sector workers are also a focus, with SBN 2504, known as Salary Standardization Law 6, pushing for higher and more competitive wages for government employees.
