ProPhase Labs has received a US patent for its biomarker-based systems and methods to assess progression risk in Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma. The patent issuance follows the validation of the BE-Smart™ molecular diagnostic, which achieved a 95% technical success rate in detecting a panel of biomarkers. This supports earlier detection of the conditions.

ProPhase Labs Inc. (NASDAQ: PRPH), a biotechnology company specializing in diagnostics, genomics, and consumer health products, has received a US patent for its biomarker-based systems and methods to assess progression risk in Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma. This patent issuance follows the validation of the BE-Smart™ molecular diagnostic test, which achieved a 95% technical success rate in detecting a panel of biomarkers [1].

The BE-Smart™ test is designed to work with both forceps and brush biopsies, addressing a $10 billion target market. The test uses proprietary biomarkers to detect esophageal adenocarcinoma cancer (EAC), which has seen a 750% increase in incidence since the 1970s and has a 79% mortality rate. The company plans to launch the test clinically within 2-3 quarters [2].

The patent issuance further supports the company's strategic initiatives, including the BE-Smart™ esophageal cancer test and the potential sale of Nebula Genomics, a subsidiary with a 16-petabyte DNA dataset. ProPhase Labs also aims to recover up to $50 million in Covid accounts receivables through the Crown Medical Collections project [3].

The company recently announced a special meeting of shareholders on August 29, 2025, where shareholders will vote on increasing the company's authorized shares to 1 billion. The Board unanimously recommends voting 'FOR' all proposals [4].

ProPhase Labs has also been exploring strategic reverse mergers and crypto treasury initiatives, including Bitcoin investments, to create additional shareholder value while preserving existing assets [5]. The company continues to navigate its compliance with Nasdaq's minimum bid price rule, receiving a 180-day extension to regain compliance [6].
