SPR --
Dear FreightWaves Readers,
As the CEO of Project44 (p44), I feel compelled to address the ongoing dispute with MyCarrier, a long-standing partner in the LTL freight industry. The recent public statements and misrepresentations by MyCarrier's CEO, Mike Bookout, have created confusion and concern within our industry. I would like to set the record straight and provide some context for our perspective on this matter.

In 2017, p44 invested in MyCarrier, believing in the potential of our partnership to digitally transform the LTL shipping industry. We provided MyCarrier with our data, APIs, and analytics at a substantial discount, enabling them to build a successful transportation management platform. For years, MyCarrier was one of our largest users, relying heavily on our technology, including eBOL, which we launched in 2019.
As the original contract with deeply discounted rates was expiring in 2023, p44 offered MyCarrier two options: part ways amicably, with p44 even offering to help MyCarrier build its own carrier integrations, or sign a new five-year contract with rates that would gradually increase over time to align with market rates. MyCarrier chose to stay and signed a new five-year contract in October 2023, agreeing to standard "no build behind" and non-compete clauses without reservation.
However, documents obtained through a court order reveal that MyCarrier was secretly planning to breach the contract by building a replacement for p44's platform and developing a competing eBOL product. This was a premeditated effort to phase out p44 while still using our services, violating the "no build behind" clause and the spirit of our partnership.
MyCarrier's actions have disrupted our partnership and threatened the integrity of the LTL industry. Despite multiple warnings and attempts to resolve the issue privately, MyCarrier has continued to breach the contract, misusing data obtained through p44 to power analytics products and threatening serious competitive harm to our company.
We have asked the court to stop MyCarrier from further violations and prevent the continued use of alternative service providers. Our goal is to protect our intellectual property, maintain fair business practices, and preserve the trust and collaboration that our industry is built upon.
I want to assure our customers, partners, and employees that p44 remains committed to providing reliable and innovative services. We will continue to pursue all legal avenues to maintain those protections and resolve this dispute in a manner that is fair and just for all parties involved.
Sincerely,
Jett McCandless
CEO, Project44
