According to a new J.D. Power study, overall satisfaction with tax preparers in the U.S. is 705 out of 1,000. The study, which measures customer experiences with the largest tax do-it-yourself and assisted preparation brands, found that perceived value for price is the key differentiator between top and bottom-performing brands [1].

TaxSlayer ranks highest with a score of 712, followed by Intuit TurboTax (708) and H&R Block (706). The study was based on responses from 1,969 customers who filed annual tax returns using an online service, tax software, or hired a tax professional [1].

Mike Foy, managing director of the wealth management practice at J.D. Power, noted that "81% of study respondents indicated the price of their chosen service met their expectations." He also highlighted the increasing ease of switching platforms and the need for professional services to offer more than just filing advice to close the value perception gap [1].

The study ranked brands based on seven dimensions: digital channels; level of trust; ease to prepare and file taxes; met tax preparation and filing needs; people; resolved problems or questions; and value for price [1].
