Potomac Edison residential customers in Maryland will receive relief on their electric bills through the Legislative Energy Relief Refund, created by the Maryland General Assembly's Next Generation Energy Act. Two bill credits, one in September 2025 and another in January or February 2026, will be issued to help ease the burden of rising electricity costs for families. The credits' amount will vary based on each household's average electricity usage.

The credits are funded through payments made by utilities and electricity suppliers under Maryland's renewable energy laws and will not be charged back to customers. Potomac Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE), has committed to coordinating with state officials to help customers manage costs through these credits. The utility also offers year-round programs for those who need extra help with their electric bills, including bill assistance programs, energy efficiency tools, and energy-saving resources.

Eligible customers will automatically receive the credit without needing to sign up or apply. To qualify, customers must have had an active residential account as of June 1, 2025, with recorded usage between April 2024 and March 2025. The credits will be applied to the customers' accounts, and the utility encourages those who can afford it to donate to local energy assistance programs.

Potomac Edison serves approximately 285,000 customers in Maryland and offers additional support through bill assistance programs, energy efficiency tools, and energy-saving resources. For more information, visit firstenergycorp.com/MDEnergyReliefCredit.
