This Polymarket Bet Turns $100 Into $1,538 If Iran's Regime Falls -- and It's Already Crumbling
The Supreme Leader is dead. Protests are in all 31 provinces. The Strait of Hormuz is a ghost waterway. And Polymarket is paying you 15-to-1 on a regime collapse that's already underway. This is not a hypothetical. This is the price of a market that hasn't caught up with reality.
The news broke hours ago: Iran's chief negotiator publicly accused Trump of "theater diplomacy" as traffic through the Strait of Hormuz collapsed to a near standstill -- just one dry bulk carrier passed the Bab el-Mandeb versus 20 the day before. Tehran's parliament is now reviewing a draft bill to bar US and Israeli ships from the waterway entirely, with fines of up to 20% of cargo value for violators. And industry sources say the proposed Iran-Oman deal to manage the strait is "not easily workable" because of US sanctions and insurance clauses that terminate cover for any vessel that pays Tehran a fee.
But the Hormuz crisis is a symptom. The underlying disease is terminal.
Here's what the Polymarket odds are not pricing in: Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in coordinated US-Israeli strikes on February 28, 2026. The country has been governed since by an Interim Leadership Council with no clear successor and no timeline. Protests that began in December 2025 have spread to all 31 provinces, driven by a collapsing currency, energy shortages, and inflation that has wiped out middle-class savings. The regime has acknowledged roughly 3,000 deaths in the crackdown; rights groups say the real number is far higher. The political crisis is being described as the most severe since the 1979 Islamic Revolution -- structural, not episodic.
Monarchist sentiment has resurfaced around the exiled Crown Prince. The IRGC is stretched between external conflict and internal repression. The Mossad chief reportedly dismissed senior officials over their failure to topple the government. Every pillar of the Islamic Republic -- the Supreme Leader, the Guardian Council, the IRGC's aura of invincibility -- has been cracked in the same calendar year.
And yet the market says there's a 6.5% chance the regime falls before 2027. That's absurd.
Do the math. At 6.5 cents, $100 buys you about 1,538 shares. If the "Yes" outcome hits -- if the regime collapses, is overthrown, or ceases to govern by December 31 -- each share pays $1. That's $1,538 back on your $100. A profit of $1,438. Fifteen-to-one on a regime that has already lost its Supreme Leader, is fighting on two fronts (external war, internal uprising), and is running out of options.
The counter-case is real: the IRGC still has guns and money. The international community still deals with the regime. Regime change is never a straight line. That's why it's not 50 cents. But 6.5 cents? That's a market that priced itself before the war, before the assassination, before the protests metastasized, and it has not yet adjusted.

The resolution date is December 31, 2026. You have four and a half months. The Strait of Hormuz bill, the collapsing economy, the leadership vacuum -- every day brings a new catalyst that this price has not absorbed.
Nobody is watching this market closely enough. That's exactly why it's a gift.

Summary
Polymarket's "Will the Iranian regime fall before 2027?" market is pricing "Yes" at just 6.5c, implying a 93.5% chance the current regime survives. But the Supreme Leader was killed in February, protests are nationwide, the economy is in freefall, and today's Strait of Hormuz escalation shows a regime lashing outward because it's crumbling inward. At 15-to-1, this is a bet that the market is asleep at the wheel.
