Polygon co-founder Mihailo Bjelic has announced his resignation from the project's development work and from the foundation's board. Bjelic made this announcement on the social platform X, stating that as the project matured, there was a divergence in vision, leading to his decision to step back from day-to-day operations. However, he expressed his continued support for Polygon's development in other ways.
Bjelic was one of the four original co-founders of Polygon, which was formerly known as Matic Network, established in 2017. His departure marks the exit of the third co-founder from the project. Previously, in 2023, two other co-founders, Jaynti Kanani and Anurag Arjun, had also left the project.
This series of departures raises questions about the stability and future direction of Polygon. The exit of key founders can often signal significant changes within an organization, whether it be a shift in strategic vision, internal conflicts, or a natural evolution as the project matures. Bjelic's decision to step back from operational roles while continuing to support the project suggests a desire to maintain influence without the day-to-day responsibilities.
The departure of multiple co-founders within a short period can be seen as a potential risk for any organization, as it may lead to a loss of institutional knowledge and strategic direction. However, it also presents an opportunity for new leadership to emerge and for the project to adapt to changing circumstances. Polygon's ability to navigate these transitions will be crucial in determining its long-term success and sustainability.
As Polygon continues to evolve, it will be important for the remaining leadership to address any concerns about the project's direction and to ensure that the vision remains aligned with the goals of the community and stakeholders. The support of the founding team, even in a reduced capacity, can provide valuable guidance and continuity during this period of change.
