Sandeep Nailwal, a co-founder of Polygon, has been appointed as the first CEO of the Polygon Foundation, marking a significant shift in the organization's leadership structure. This move is aimed at sharpening the strategic focus of the blockchain project. Until now, the Polygon Foundation was managed through a consensus of a group of co-founders. However, with Nailwal taking the helm, the foundation will now operate under a more centralized leadership model.
Nailwal's immediate plans include driving a product-first approach to launch a full-featured Agglayer, a roadmap to evolve Polygon PoS into the high-throughput GigaGAS chain capable of supporting over 100,000 transactions per second for payments and real-world assets. He will also focus on the expansion of the Agglayer Breakout Program, the sunset of Polygon zkEVM, and renewed market maker engagement to support
and ensure robust liquidity across decentralized and centralized exchanges. The appointment of Nailwal as CEO signals a clear shift from a more passive chapter in Polygon’s history to a focused and ambitious founder-led vision for the future. This strategic push aims to reclaim Polygon's position at the forefront of Web3. Nailwal's leadership is expected to bring a renewed focus on scaling the next chapter of Polygon, with a mission to move fast, aggressively, and with full conviction.
The leadership changes at Polygon have been ongoing. The blockchain project was started in 2017 by Nailwal, Jaynti Kanani, and Anurag Arjun. Kanani and Arjun left the startup in March 2023 after a leadership reshuffle and went on to start their next ventures. Nailwal's appointment as CEO comes at a time when the organization is looking to scale its operations and drive exponential growth.
Polygon Labs, the parent company of the Polygon Foundation, has also seen significant changes in its leadership. Former chief legal officer Boiron was appointed as the CEO, continuing to lead the organization’s strategic vision and drive execution. Mudit Gupta is the chief technology officer, and
Niedzialek, a longtime Polygon Labs executive, is now the chief operating officer, overseeing business development, partner enablement, and core operational functions. The appointment of Nailwal as CEO is expected to bring a renewed focus on strategic initiatives and key ecosystem developments. With a clear vision and aggressive approach, Nailwal aims to steer Polygon towards exponential growth and increased value for the Polygon ecosystem, including users, applications, and POL stakers. This move is seen as a pivotal step in Polygon's journey to reclaim its position as a leader in the Web3 space.
