Polish state assets minister: Support mechanism for coal plants needed at EU level

Poland has announced a significant investment in the production of 155-mm ammunition, a critical asset for its self-propelled howitzers, the K9 Thunder and PGZ Krab. The Polish Capital Investment Fund (FIK) will provide over 2.4 billion zloty ($662.9 million) to four companies from the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) to expand their production capabilities [2].

The funding will enable the companies to increase their production potential, create new infrastructure, and acquire advanced technologies. This investment comes in response to the dramatic increase in demand for 155-mm ammunition since the start of the conflict in Ukraine. The Polish government aims to enhance domestic production of this type of weaponry to ensure independence from foreign suppliers and build a lasting base for national autonomy [2].

Meanwhile, Poland's state assets minister, Jakub Jaworowski, has called for a support mechanism for coal plants at the EU level. The minister highlighted the need for such a mechanism to address the ongoing issues in the coal sector, including quality complaints from the power sector. The power ministry in India has also been urging coal producers to improve fuel quality, suggesting measures such as testing coal quality upon arrival to customers and examining multiple layers of the stockpile [1].

The minister emphasized that the construction of large-caliber ammunition factories is a key special project for Poland's defense industry. The goal is to increase domestic production of this type of weaponry quickly, which is crucial on the modern battlefield. The funds granted will enable the companies to increase production capacity, expand infrastructure, and enter new technologies, further increasing their competitiveness on both the domestic and European markets [2].
