Pinduoduo Shares Rise Amid New Tech Institute Competition Launch and Grocery Service Rebranding

On May 8, Pinduoduo announced the launch of the "Pinduoduo Cup" Technology Institute Competition in Handan, Hebei Province, as part of the 2025 National Technology Institute Conference. This initiative serves as a competition and a significant rural development effort aimed at enhancing agricultural research and innovation. The competition features five main tracks in 'Technology in Agriculture,' 'Youth in Agriculture,' 'Digital Aid in Agriculture,' 'Entrepreneurship for Rural Prosperity,' and 'Multifaceted Integration,' with a four-tier contest structure. Experts including an 'Academician Flying Group' will evaluate projects, providing tailored guidance.

Since its inception in 2009, the Technology Institute has expanded from its origins in Hebei to over 1800 locations in 31 provinces across the country, covering 355 cities and thousands of towns. Through competitive mechanisms, these institutes have driven construction, inspired innovation, and showcased various cases of scientific farming, contributing technology support for rural revitalization. Pinduoduo has been a consecutive supporter of the initiative, promoting agricultural science and excellent farm products through its 'Billion Support Plan' which also aids farmers and merchants.

The competition expands its influence, with expectations for more international collaborations among participating institutes. This fosters learning and collaboration within the field, enhancing the evaluation process's accuracy and fairness. The innovative evaluation techniques introduced by the 'Academician Flying Group' provide practical and credible assessments, contributing greatly to the institutes' role as a key link between laboratory and fieldwork.

In recent developments, Pinduoduo has also rebranded its "Duoduo Grocery Express Services" as the "Pinduoduo Station," adding features including 24-hour self-service and home delivery. The renamed service, already trialing in many regions, expanded rapidly since late 2024 and now covers various provinces such as Qinghai, Jilin, Zhejiang, and more. Pinduoduo's local company operations help navigate licensing requirements, with first priority given to establishing stations in county markets using a zero franchise fee and equipment deposit strategy.
