Peak Energy has secured a landmark 4.75 GWh sodium-ion battery contract with Jupiter Power, marking the largest single deployment of sodium-ion batteries globally. The deal, worth over $500 million, involves the delivery of 720 MWh in 2027 and a further 4 GWh between 2028 and 2030. Peak Energy claims its sodium-ion batteries offer lower O&M costs and reduced degradation compared to lithium-ion technology. This agreement supports the transition towards non-lithium battery chemistries for grid-scale energy storage and establishes a domestic sodium-ion battery supply chain in the US.
