PC Connection Looks 79% Undervalued After Record Q2-But the Stock Already Ran 31%

At $83.72, the shares already trade at about 94% of the $93.76 fair value estimate. That does not eliminate upside, but it does raise the bar. When a stock has already rerated sharply, the easiest part of the move is often the shift from skepticism to recognition, not the confirmation itself.
With shares still below the $88.31 52-week high, the near-term upside case is still alive. But after a strong run, that case depends more on sustained execution than on one excellent quarter.
Q2 showed better mix, better margins, and a more durable business model
More of each sales dollar is staying in the business
What mattered most in the quarter was not just growth, but the quality of that growth. Management reported 30 basis points of gross-margin expansion to an 18.4% gross margin, while gross profit reached a record $157.5 million. That matters because a distributor can grow by moving more boxes, but a better business grows by capturing more value from each dollar of sales.
The operating statement tells a similar story. Connection posted a record operating margin of 5.0%, while operating income rose to $43.0 million. At the same time, EPS grew 5.0% QoQ and 3.9% YoY. That points to improved operating leverage: profits were not just keeping pace with revenue, they were improving quarter over quarter and year over year.
Services and solutions still matter
Investors still risk anchoring to the old "IT distributor" label. In reality, PC ConnectionCNXN-- offers a broader mix of higher-value work, including managed services and professional services, cybersecurity, digital workspace, modern infrastructure, multicloud, and related implementation work.
That mix matters because services usually create stickier customer relationships than pure hardware reselling. Management also tied demand to customers increasingly operationalizing AI and needing help to modernize infrastructure, strengthen security, and integrate cloud and data platforms. That is a better long-term franchise than simple box movement.
The main debate is whether the mix shift is durable
The bullish read is straightforward: if services and solutions continue to lift mix, the market may be less likely to value Connection like a commoditized reseller.
The cautious read is that the quarter's benefits were still partly mix-driven. Management said gross-margin expansion reflected favorable product and customer mix, and Business Solutions gross margin decreased 50 basis points. That does not invalidate the quarter, but it does make durability the key watchpoint.

If margin expansion holds up in the second half, this starts to look like more than a one-quarter beat. If not, the story remains a good quarter rather than a clear business-model improvement.
Valuation still reflects some skepticism about the old CNXN story
The market still seems divided. One group is focused on the old low-margin distributor label and the stock's P/S 0.62x multiple. The other is reacting to a quarter in which net sales increased 12.4% and net income increased 33.8%. For now, that gap looks as much psychological as mathematical.
The multiple is low, but the earnings multiple is not
On the surface, Connection still looks inexpensive at 0.62x sales. But that metric can be misleading for a business that also sells services and solutions. The market is already valuing earnings at 22.09x P/E, with a PEG 4.84x. That is not a deeply distressed valuation. It suggests investors want more proof before paying an even richer price.
The real question is whether more revenue is becoming profit
The quarter offered one useful data point: gross margin expanded 30 basis points to 18.4%, while the company also posted a record operating margin of 5.0%. If that trend continues, it gives investors a stronger reason to rethink the old reseller discount.
There are still reasons to stay selective. The company's quick ratio fell by 16% YoY and by 10% QoQ, and The return on assets has declined by 4.4% year-over-year. Those metrics do not break the story, but they do argue for patience until the market can see whether this quarter reflects a lasting improvement in business quality.
